For the Live Brief for Leutton Postle, I decided to look at the Holi Festival of colour and named the project 'Colour Indulge'. I carried on using wovens with knits as I have been with my major project (Evanescent Moments), however have really pushed myself to use the idea in a different way to create a totally different aesthetic.
I was really challenged in this project to create high quality samples to a short deadline, as usually my knits are quite intricate and time consuming. I managed to create a collection of samples to a high quality within the deadline and this has made me realise that I can be less precious over my knitting whilst sampling and play around with ideas more. I will take this with me when doing further work on my major project.
I feel that this Live brief has been extremely helpful and a great opportunity for me to challenge myself with style and colour and be pushed out of my comfort zone. I have used the brightest colour palette that I have ever used and have really enjoyed it. I would like to bring in a few of these bright colours into my major projection samples to lift them and make them more modern and interesting.
In this collection of samples I have used a mixture of knitting machines, included hand knit and used found materials such as ribbon and chord. Each samples brings something new and different to the collection and I got good feedback for this after the presentation. I will definitely keep this in mind for my major project and any future work when designing a collection of fabrics.
