Colour.

I have decided that the bright oranges and purples and colour proportions taken from the Leutton Postle project aren't really giving the feel that I want for this project, so I have chosen to use tones of blues, pinks and purples to give a delicate and sophisticated feel to my work. I want to create a gradual transition of colour through dyeing and knit technique such as inlay.

Digital Printing

It was interesting to see how digital print worked however I feel they would work better on a lighter fabric using brighter and fresher colours. I may develop these prints and use the technique later on in the project, however for now I plan to focus on dyeing my own fabrics to connect with the knits, to enhance the knit rather than take attention away from it.

Initial samples - dye

Colour is important in my work so I have started knitting in cottons and dyeing my knits. I wanted to carry on using the colours from the previous project as well as bringing brighter colours from the Leutton Postle project and powder paint technique.

To improve I now need to mix my own colours out of the dyes to create more individual and unique samples, remembering to record so it is repeatable.

I also feel the samples will fit in with my theme more and be more successful if i focus on using silks and viscose rather than cottons to create drape and lustre.

UNIT X beginings...

I feel that there are areas from my major projects that I would like to continue to explore within unit X. I am going to carry on the theme of evanescent moments, but include elements such as colour and skills learnt from the Leutton Postle brief. I aim to further push my concept of combining woven fabrics with my knits, creating a more gradual join. I also would like to further push yarn choice, using more lustrous yarns such as silks and viscose as well as a more varied weight of yarn. Colour is also important in this project and I need to focus on matching colours well, mixing my own dyes and dyeing my own yarns and fabrics. Within the project I would also like to experiment with digital print, joining these fabrics with my knits.
