Evaluation of EVANESCENT MOMENT.

I have been aiming to further push myself with technique and creativity within this project and feel overall that it has been successful. I have learnt a lot from the experience and wish to carry on building up my portfolio, creating innovative and sophisticated ideas. Within this project my photography work has grown significantly and I now feel confident in capturing my samples in this way. I have enjoyed working towards creating inspirational samples for high-end fashion as it has allowed me to push myself and be creative, creating unique samples but still finishing to a high quality. In this project I have created larger scale samples and this has been really successful, allowing me to work a lot more on the body, with photography and visualisations, to give more of an idea of how it could be worn as a garment.

I have continued work from the previous project and this has allowed me to explore the idea of connecting wovens to knits further, creating subtle joins and layers.
I have really focused on creating depth with colour, varying areas of transparency and using layers of knit and woven fabrics such as chiffons and pleats. The use of elastic and monofilament has created shapes that reflect the natural shapes from my research.

I have also worked to find a way of creating a gradient of colour with my samples and feel I have achieved this using dip dye and inlay technique.

Overall, I feel that I have developed my ideas into a beautiful and unique inspirational collection of fabrics and photography for high end women's fashion.

Final Visualisations.

This method of visualisation has worked well to display how my samples could be continued into garments. I wanted them to be more abstract and inspirational as my market is high end fashion so I want to influence in creating one off unique pieces.

Look Book.

I have decided to create a look book as I feel this will be a good way to show my photography in a sophisticated and professional way. As there has been confusion with delivery dates I have created a back up look book for deadline, which involves the exact pictures and layout of the look book. The final look book will be shown at degree show.

Further sampling.

I have knitted these samples using different techniques to what I have used in my previous final samples to show more variation within my portfolio. I wanted to create the same feel and gradient of colour and so have still used inlay but with drop stitch and racking as well to create different areas of transparency and solid colour.

Initial visualisations.

Initial visualisations are working well, I like the transparency of the pieces and them giving a hint of how they could work on the body.

Now I am going to create more detailed visualisations, still using the tracing paper but drawing over the top.

Using monofilament and inlay.

I think the use of monofilament has added structure to my samples which works really well and the use of inlay gives an illusion of floating transitional colour which is really successful. I feel that my samples are working well on the body as well as hanging by themselves as they create interesting shapes.

I now feel I should sample in this final week without using mono filament and elastic to add something different to my portfolio. I plan to carry on using the idea to create a gradual colour gradient, however in a different way than previously used, with racking, drop stitch and using more creams and hidden colours. I also am going to create visualisations of my samples to give more of an idea of how it could be worn on the body. I want these to reflect my theme and be clear and effective images that work with the shapes of my samples and shapes with in my research.

Further layering. Projections.

I feel that my samples are really working. They reflect the feel of my theme, appeal to a high end market and I have explored shapes and layering on the body and feel photography of this has worked really well. I would like to create a look book that can show my samples in this way and fully portray my theme.

To create further depth and layer to my samples I have used projections of my previous photographs and ink drawings onto my final samples. I feel like works well as it is another way of viewing my samples, focusing on layering and colour.

Final samples on the body.

It has been extremely helpful working with my samples on the body as the way they natural fall and the shapes they create works really well and is fitting to my purpose of creating inspirational fabrics for fashion. My samples work best on the body or being hung, rather than flat and my photography reflects this.

Pleating.

A lot of my research includes pleated shapes and layers, I have used pleats, ribs and layers of fabrics within my samples to show this. Getting some fabrics pleated was really successful as dyeing will not make the pleats fall out and they add further interest to my samples and another layer to pieces. I want to experiment with using the pleats in a different way, using different amounts of the pleated fabrics with my knit samples.

Creating layers with dye.

I have created layer of colour and shape by using dye on wet papers. I let the dye run to create natural shapes that reflect the floating fabrics that I have been looking at. I think that these are successful, however would like to use them somehow with my samples, perhaps as a projection onto the samples to create further layering and depth of colour.

Initial fabrics on the body.

I have experimented creating natural shape outside using the wind to blow the chiffons and lighter cottons. The shapes created are really interesting and I think they work well as inspirational fabrics for fashion when coming off the body. I want to further develop this idea using my knit samples joined to woven fabrics. The background of these photos aren't working though, as the green is too distracting and doesn't work with the feel of my project. A simple white background makes the photograph much more effective (like top left image).

Exploring shape.

I have started to look at shapes that my fabrics can create. I think the idea of the samples floating works really well and photographing them in this well shows them at their best. I want to continue working in this way, pushing shape and use of colour.

The photographs on the beach work well, however in future when doing photography on the body I want to use a plain photo room so as to not distract away from my work.
I now need to experiment with fabrics on the body, but I want to keep the same floating feel of these photographs.

Shape, Inspiration.

Huang Xu
Liliya Satirova

I want to look at the shapes that floating fabrics create and want my samples to reflect the feel of weightlessness and natural shape and layers that are made. I am also interested in the different depth of colours within this photos and want to further explore dying technique and layering, capturing in my own photography.

Layer.

Yesenia Tribault.
I have been looking at images that reflect the feel i would like my theme to reflect and the use of subtle colour and delicate layers. I have been using chiffons and dip dye techniques and photographing them in a considered way. I think these are successful, however can be pushed further. I could maybe look into using a projector to create layers. I also need to concentrate on shapes that I want my samples to make.

Colour.

I have decided that the bright oranges and purples and colour proportions taken from the Leutton Postle project aren't really giving the feel that I want for this project, so I have chosen to use tones of blues, pinks and purples to give a delicate and sophisticated feel to my work. I want to create a gradual transition of colour through dyeing and knit technique such as inlay.

Digital Printing

It was interesting to see how digital print worked however I feel they would work better on a lighter fabric using brighter and fresher colours. I may develop these prints and use the technique later on in the project, however for now I plan to focus on dyeing my own fabrics to connect with the knits, to enhance the knit rather than take attention away from it.
