Pleating.

A lot of my research includes pleated shapes and layers, I have used pleats, ribs and layers of fabrics within my samples to show this. Getting some fabrics pleated was really successful as dyeing will not make the pleats fall out and they add further interest to my samples and another layer to pieces. I want to experiment with using the pleats in a different way, using different amounts of the pleated fabrics with my knit samples.

Creating layers with dye.

I have created layer of colour and shape by using dye on wet papers. I let the dye run to create natural shapes that reflect the floating fabrics that I have been looking at. I think that these are successful, however would like to use them somehow with my samples, perhaps as a projection onto the samples to create further layering and depth of colour.

Initial fabrics on the body.

 I have experimented creating natural shape outside using the wind to blow the chiffons and lighter cottons. The shapes created are really interesting and I think they work well as inspirational fabrics for fashion when coming off the body. I want to further develop this idea using my knit samples joined to woven fabrics. The background of these photos aren't working though, as the green is too distracting and doesn't work with the feel of my project. A simple white background makes the photograph much more effective (like top left image).

Exploring shape.

 I have started to look at shapes that my fabrics can create. I think the idea of the samples floating works really well and photographing them in this well shows them at their best. I want to continue working in this way, pushing shape and use of colour.

The photographs on the beach work well, however in future when doing photography on the body I want to use a plain photo room so as to not distract away from my work.
I now need to experiment with fabrics on the body, but I want to keep the same floating feel of these photographs.

I want to look at the shapes that floating fabrics create and want my samples to reflect the feel of weightlessness and natural shape and layers that are made. I am also interested in the different depth of colours within this photos and want to further explore dying technique and layering, capturing in my own photography.

I have been looking at images that reflect the feel i would like my theme to reflect and the use of subtle colour and delicate layers. I have been using chiffons and dip dye techniques and photographing them in a considered way. I think these are successful, however can be pushed further. I could maybe look into using a projector to create layers. I also need to concentrate on shapes that I want my samples to make.
